Whether you prefer to stay local or you’re up for a short road trip, the western part of the Lone Star State has so many great fishing spots to explore. Start with our favorite four places to fish within a reasonable driving distance of Odessa, TX.

Drive on Over: 4 Fishing Spots Near Odessa, TX

Comanche Trail Pond 

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regularly stocks this popular Odessa pond with rainbow trout. Comanche Trail Pond has a daily limit of five trouts of any length. However, anglers can only use two poles at a time. Odessa holds an annual Take Me Fishing event at the pond where kids can learn to fish and get tips from Parks and Wildlife workers. The day also features contests and games.

Comanche Trail Pond is located in Comanche Trail Park, 301 W I-20. You can also hike the park’s 3.2-mile trail and play disc golf at one of three courses while you’re here.


Beal Park Lake

You can be at this Midland lake in just a 20-minute drive from Odessa. Beal Park Lake is a great spot to fish for rainbow trout, channel catfish, and bluegill sunfish. The park also has soccer, baseball, cricket, and softball fields, basketball courts, a lighted skate park, a playground, and public restrooms.

Beal Park is located at 5200 W Wall St. It’s open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Perch Pond Community Fishing Lake

Approximately 30 minutes from Odessa in Monahans, Perch Pond is an awesome place to catch channel catfish, carp, and rainbow trout. You’ll also find lots of perch, the lake’s namesake species. Although boats aren’t allowed on the pond, you can use up to two rods and reels on the banks. Perch Pond has no quality or size limits for carp and perch. The limit is five for trout, crappie, and catfish. Catfish must be at least 12 inches (10 for crappie and trout).

Perch Pond is open from sunrise to sunset. It’s located at 2200 S Ora St.


Lake Colorado City State Park

Located about a 90-minute drive from Odessa in Colorado City, Lake Colorado City State Park features a 1,618-acre lake with a boat ramp and fishing pier. You can catch sunfish, channel catfish, and largemouth bass at this fishing destination. If you don’t have your own boat, you can fish from the shore or rent a kayak on-site, including life vests and paddles.

In addition to fishing, Lake Colorado City State Park offers camping, hiking, birdwatching, swimming, and paddling. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Farm to Market 2836. Admission is $4 for adults and free for kids ages 12 and under.
