Honda is known for offering some of the most versatile and well-rounded SUVs in the world. Although they tend to stick toward the midsize to compact range, the automaker puts real effort into giving customers the maximum possible value, no matter which model of SUV or the trim level they pick. For 2021, Honda offers four (not counting CR-V Hybrid separately) choices for SUVs designed to meet the many lifestyles of its customers. Let’s have a look at Honda’s SUV lineup for 2021-2022.

Honda HR-V

Lightly refreshed outside for 2021, this small SUV is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four cylinder engine sporting 141 horsepower, 121 pound-feet of torque, and solid fuel economy. As if in defiance of its compact size, it is a stylish vehicle that stands out nicely. It also offers up to 58.8 cubic feet of cargo space for the first big move off to college. Add it all together, and it’s a great choice for someone’s first vehicle.

Honda CR-V and CR-V Hybrid

Larger than the HR-V, the CR-V comes in gasoline and Hybrid variants. The gasoline version uses a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine and CVT transmission, whereas the hybrid version features a more powerful 2.0-liter inline-four hybrid powertrain.

If you care about interior quality at a bargain, consider any one of the current CR-Vs. Passenger room, interior appointments, everything works great and gives off a much pricier feel. The standard model offers up to 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space (trunk is 37.6 cubic feet), and those numbers are only slightly reduced to make room for the electric technology on the CR-V Hybrid.

Honda Passport

Starting higher than the CR-V, this family SUV is where you start to see some notable off-road capabilities. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and can reach up to a 5,000-pound tow rating. This spacious, four-wheel-drive people mover suits the outdoorsy and adventurous, partly due to features like Intelligent Traction Management. It’s also a beast when it comes to raw power, thanks to 280 horsepower and a nine-speed automatic shifter.

Another great trait of the Passport is class-leading underfloor cargo storage. In fact, the full cabin offers up to 100.7 cubic feet of cargo space (50.5 in the cargo area alone). That said, it still only seats five, so if your family is a little bigger than that, we have one more option you don’t want to forget.

Honda Pilot

The 2021 Honda Pilot is a seven-or-eight-seat commuter SUV offering incredibly good value, similar to the Passport but in a bigger package. It boasts the same 3.5-liter V-6 as the Passport, plus a range of stylish upgrades or inclusions on higher trim levels, such as a power moonroof or captain’s chairs in the second row. It also offers up to 109 cubic feet of cargo space, and 16 to 16.5 cubic feet in the cargo area alone. Power output, capabilities, and driving experience are similar to the Passport, just with slightly more of a nuanced, car-like grace.
